Oh, Proctrastination...

I procrastinate way too much. Before I started writing this, I was just sitting at my desk, playing with ball point pen, trying to see if I could get it to click in and out when the bottom half was unscrewed. Before that, I was eating cereal and reading fmylife.com. I am normally not as bad on Sundays, because that’s when I do laundry. For some reason I’m usually more productive when I’m waiting for my clothes to finish washing or drying, maybe because I enjoy feeling like I’m multitasking. I think the reason that it is so much harder for me to concentrate today, is that I am listening to music. I remember when I was in high school, I had no problem doing homework with music in the background. I think that part of the reason I was able to do that is that most of the time I only did my math homework with music. As I have discovered, it is a lot easier to do two things at once when one of them is mindlessly plugging numbers into formulas than when you are actually trying to come up with something original to write. Unfortunately, the music tends to take priority and I start wanting to sing along, and then my mind starts to wander. It would make sense for me to turn off the music when I want to start getting work done, but after having music in the room, it’s hard to suddenly try to work in silence. I think the trick is to just not turn on the music in the first place. Next time I start doing homework, I will save the music as a reward for finishing in a timely manner.

  1. This was really creative! I liked how vividly you painted the scene of you clicking your pen, and then moved into talking about the distraction of music. I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes through this whole issue of music being a priority over homework. It's interesting how alike we are with how music comes first - and I'm sure there are others that are the same way.

Try to organized the thoughts a little better. I had to reread some parts because I didn't know how you transferred from one topic to the next.

  2. I really never procrastinate until college. When I was in high school, the first thing after I got back home was to do my homework. I just can not understand why my friends chose to start work in the middle night and complained that they did not sleep the next day. I was really proud of this nerdy habit of mine at that time. However, things changed when I start my college life. I do not really know why, but everything seems being pushed back. When I got back form class, I will find a reason to excuse myself from doing the work later. Now, I really have to control myself from procrastination.

  3. I really enjoyed reading your blog, it was very unique in that you didn't write about something in the past or the future, or a story of something that happened to you, but you chose to write about what you were doing right at that second. I liked your use of language especially in the first few sentences talking about the clicking in and out of your pen. It really captured your boredum and unwillingness to start writing the blog. It set the scene for me and from there I was able to better understand and relate to what you were going through, which I already do because even as I am writing this comment, I am listening to music.
